History

Longridge Town were formed in 1996, an amalgamation of the two historical town Clubs, Longridge United and Longridge St Wilfrid’s.

Always an area with a strong footballing history it was felt that it would be beneficial to the market town of Longridge to focus on one football club.

Entering the Preston and District League, Town gradually progressed, winning the Division 3 title in 2003/04.

At this point the club made the ambitious step of moving to its own ground on Inglewhite Road, moving from the public pitches of Longridge Rec.

The move established the clubs ambitions and , after winning the District League Division One title in 2007/08, Longridge were promoted to the West Lancashire League.

Now under the Chairmanship of local businessman Brian Parkinson, and the management of Anthony Keefe, Town impressed immediately at the higher standard winning promotion from Division 2 at the first attempt.

More progress was to come as Longridge became 1st Division Champions just two years later and winning promotion the Premier Division.

The Club was growing in stature and, after Keefe stepped down due to the increasing demands on time and travel, Mr Parkinson made the ambitious move to secure the services of an experienced non League manager.

In 2014, former Kendal Town and Northwich Victoria manager Lee Ashcroft was appointed player Manager with a brief to challenge for the top honours at West Lancs level.

Ashcroft duly obliged, after overhauling the playing staff and playing an attractive brand of football, Town won the West Lancs League Premier Division title in 2016/17 and followed up with a Wilf Carr trophy win the following season.

With an ambitious young manager, and a growing reputation, Town applied for entry to the North West Counties League. The biggest issue was the ground grading that all Clubs must achieve but with the installation of a new stand and dugouts, along with outstanding efforts from club volunteers, Longridge were accepted into the League for the 2017/18 season.

It was to be Mr Parkinson’s legacy to the Club as he took a step back to support Town from the sidelines, continuing to follow the Club home and away.

New Chair Kevin Harrison and manager Ashcroft decided to ‘go for it’ attracting established non League players such as Richard Allen, Jay Hart, Tom Ince and Michael Morrison.

These were eye catching signings at this level and Town won the NWCFL Division One title at the first attempt on the final day of the season, having scored 144 goals in 38 games.

After establishing themselves at Premier Division level, Covid struck with Longridge in 6th place after 28 games.

Like many Clubs this was a challenging time for Town and, by the time normality resumed, Ashcroft had reinvented his side as a place for young players to come to and improve their footballing ability.

George Thomason left to join Bolton Wanderers, where he is now captain. Brandon Lee was snapped up by Macclesfield after Town crushed them 4-2, Harvey McAdam made the step up and eventually joined Fleetwood Town whilst many others, often rejected by League clubs, progressed upwards in the football pyramid.

As Lee Ashcroft celebrated his 10 year anniversary, and 500th game in charge, the chairmanship changed hands once more.

With Longridge now averaging crowds of 250 upwards, it is more than just a community club, with over 30 volunteers and a 25 man playing squad. Now under the Chairmanship of local councillor, and Mayor of Longridge, Lee Jameson they are an established and respected non League football club, all in the space of 30 years.

The Wilfrid's Club is a 10 minute walk from the ground and away fans get members prices. It is the CAMRA North West Club of the year and shows all major sports. The Towneley Arms is also about a 10 minute walk to the ground, has an abundance of TV screens showing all sports.
There are a number of takeaways on route to ground. Sainsburys is 400 metres from ground. Aldi 3/4mile from ground.
