History

FC St Helens was formed in 2014 at the heart of the Town. They are a club developing constantly and growing based on a strong held set of values - playing football the way we believe it should be played and conducting ourselves correctly both on & off the pitch with a professional approach to our progress.

They place a strong emphasis on developing young players from their town and giving them the opportunity to represent St. Helens - making them into better people as well as better players.

Their first season saw them playing in the Third Division of the West Cheshire League. They secured a top six finish having won 11 of their 26 league games that season, but they were someway behind Champions Kirkby Town Railway. They also reached the Semi Final of the West Cheshire Bowl, losing to Bootle Reserves.

That summer saw them move to the Cheshire League, with better facilities at most grounds and most teams playing a better standard of football which would help the development of players.

Placed in the Second Division of the league, they finished fourth in the league, losing just five games that season. They also topped their group in the J A Walton Cup, before losing in the Quarter Finals on penalties to Golborne Sports.

That 4th place finish was enough for promotion to the First Division for the next season, and 14 wins from their 30 games brought a 5th place finish, a really good showing for a newly promoted team.

The 2019/20 season saw FC St Helens in 5th place, five points off leaders Whaley Bridge Athletic but with two games in hand. But with two weeks of the season to go and plenty to play for, Covid-19 brought a premature end to the season.

The following season was late getting underway, not starting until September, but FC St Helens got off to a flier.
A 4-4 draw to start was followed by eight successive league victories, and by Christmas the club were unbeaten and 12 points clear of their nearest rivals with a goal difference of +30.

Once more though, Covid-19 brought a premature end to the season for the second successive year, much to the frustration of everyone at the club. Football briefly returned in April with the playing of the JB Parker Cup, with a deflated Stripes losing in the Quarter Final.





In the 2019/20 season FC lifted their first major trophy, lifting the highly prestigious Lancashire County Amateur Shield, after a covid delay winning 2-0 against Lostock St Gerrards.

Covid-19 though did mean that a lot of the work was completed to bring the ground up to standard. Not only was the changing block completed, but a covered stand was put behind the goal and hard standing on three sides of the ground. The final thing was getting planning permission granted for floodlights to go up ater promotion.

2020/21 was a great season for the club. After two frustrating years, we finally lifted the Cheshire League Premier Division trophy, winning the league by 12 points and losing just four games all season.

The club were all set for promotion, but a final twist saw the club receive the devastating news that they had failed to reach the required ground grading. This was due to a difference of interpretation of the hard-standing around the ground.

An appeal to the FA brought the sensible decision that this was just down to a difference of interpretation, with the FA promotion the club to the NWCFL for the 2022/23 season.

The summer has seen the hard-standing extended to four sides, with floodlights going up by end of Sept 2022

Our debut Season in the NWCFL, proved to be very successful and pushed all the way to a Promotion Play off final, missing out on pens and a fantastic cup runs in the Macron Cup and FA Vase.

The continued winning mentality of this club again fed through to the 23/24 Season when newly appointed First Team Manager Mike Smith led the team to 12 wins and a Draw in the first 13 games of the season and set the tone for the rest of the season. This excellent start was the foundation of the club securing the First Division title with 3 games to spare; In addition to this Mike Smith then led the club to a Champions Winners Cup by beating Brocton on their own turf 1-0 and end what was an amazing season for FC ST HELENS.
