Quotes from the Weekend: Matchweek 2

With the majority of NWCFL teams in action across the weekend, there was plenty of scope to speak to club managers for their opinions on what their teams produced in their 90 minutes.
This weekend saw a few teams competing in FA Cup action, and a few gaffers who are in the hat from the next round had plenty of praise for their players.
FA Cup:
Dave McNabb, of Bury FC (Congleton Town 2-4 Bury):
It was a really tough game against a very good side. The lads played some great stuff and scored some brilliant goals. We really had to dig in at the end when we went down to 10 men through injury, but we deserved it.
Richard Brodie, of Glossop North End (Litherland REMYCA 1-3 Glossop North End):
After a couple of defeats, we trained really well this week on Thursday, with a clear message and game plan going into a tough test. It was a really difficult environment at Litherland in the FA Cup! It was a bit of a sticky pitch and we had to play percentages better than them and we did. We created our own atmosphere; I thought that the travelling fans were terrific, and we deservedly went through. Today every credit was down to how the players applied themselves and I was really proud of them. We have to take it into the league next week.
Paul Marshall, of West Didsbury and Chorlton (West Didsbury and Chorlton 3-2 Burscough):
It was a great game for the neutral. We dominated the first half and should have been at least 3-0 up going into the break. In the 2nd half Burscough went for it and did really well to get back into the game, although it's something we shouldn't have allowed to happen after being so dominant. Then a fantastic winner from Lewis Billingsley in the last minute sent us through.
My lads showed great character to get the winner as the momentum was with the opposition, and I've seen those situations so many times where a team comes from 2-0 down to come back and win it, so massive credit to my lads today - they've done me proud.
First Division North:
Dave Jones, of Atherton LR (Atherton LR 5-1 Garstang):
It was a very pleasing performance today. We were delighted to get the 3 points with such a strong convincing performance. I thought the lads carried out what we asked of them and in return got their reward with 5 goals.
I'm also very pleased for Tom Romano, Joe Bacon and Hass Gorji getting their first goals for the club today. We now have to get ourselves ready for a very tough game against Ashton Athletic on Tuesday evening.
Kevin Watkin, of Holker Old Boys (Holker Old Boys 4-0 Droylsden):
It was great to follow up a winning result on Wednesday with our first home win of the season against a tough Droylsden team that will be up there come the end of the season in my opinion. The game started off in a very end to end fashion, with both teams wanting to get the ball down and play football. The penalty and red card decisions had a significant impact on the game that we then took advantage of to control things, and we came out with a good, convincing win.
Terry Green, of Thornton Cleveleys (Thornton Cleveleys 4-1 Route One Rovers):
I'm so pleased for the club today and the players. They deserve all the plaudits. The minute's silence prior to kick off really put things into perspective and it's a credit to both sides for their respect shown. Again we didn't cover ourselves in glory in the first half and missing a penalty sums our first 45 up. There were a few choice words at half time, but we kept going and we made the substitutions. Wow, they had an impact! A massive mention to Seb (Greaves), at just 17 years old, he came on and was a pest and scored twice. There's a long season ahead of us but it was nice to get off the mark with 3 points.
First Division South:
Sam Golden, of Foley Meir (Ashville 3-4 Foley Meir):
The lads were brilliant yesterday in a game which had it all. After a point on the road on Wednesday where we felt we were good value for all 3, it was crucial that we picked up the win this time around and we certainly delivered in the second half once again. To find ourselves behind 3 times and come back to win with 9 men is testament to the character of our squad and what we're capable of when we apply ourselves right.
Dan Dawson, of Market Drayton Town (Market Drayton Town 4-0 Runcorn Town):
We were really pleased with the result and the performance! We got off to a flyer through one of the league's best number 9's when Nicky Parker headed us in front. From there we dominated the game and in honesty, could have scored more. A really pleasing performance with back-to-back clean sheets being the foundation of two good results!
