PREMIER DIVISION
The North West Counties League Premier Division Goalkeeper of the Month Award for October 2025 has gone to Oliver Martin of West Didsbury & Chorlton. Its the first time Oliver has won this award, and the first for West since Andrew Jones won it in March 2022.
Oliver came through at Fleetwood Town, and played in the NWCFL for New Mills for two seasons from the start of the 2016/17 season. Spells at Northern Premier League sides Mossley, Radcliffe, Ramsbottom United and Ashton United followed, where he made a few more appearances in the league helping out Wythenshawe Town. A few seasons at Witton Albion followed before he joined West at the start in the summer of 2024, making over 50 appearances last season.
In October, Oliver played in all six of West's games, keeping four clean sheets and conceding six times at a rate of just one goal a game.
The month started for Oliver at home to Litherland REMYCA, where he kept his fifth clean sheet of the season and second in succession in a 3-0 win. The next game, a 4-0 win over Abbey Hey in the Macron Cup, brought another with a penalty save in the 55th minute a hugely contributing factor in helping West progress to the last 16.
Next up was a trip to Charnock Richard, with West winning 1-0 to bring Oliver his fourth successive clean sheet. Once again West were thankful for Oliver's talents as he made a vital stop in the 79th minute to prevent what looked like a sure Charnock goal.
Oliver made it five successive clean sheets in another 1-0 away win, this time at Atherton LR. It was a personal milestone for Oliver who celebrated his 75th appearance for West in this game. He made several key stops in this game, a full length save on half hour as well as tipping a goal bound effort onto the crossbar with 12 minutes to go.
The run of clean sheets was over in the next game as West beat Burscough 3-1, bringing a club record ninth successive win. An unfortunate own goal in the first minute brought to an end 456 minutes in which Oliver didn't concede a goal.
The final game of the month was forgettable for Oliver and his team with Irlam winning 5-2 to bring their winning run to an end, however his performances in the preceeding games mean he is a worthy winner of this months award with six games played, four clean sheets and just six goals conceded.
Congratulations to Oliver on his Award!
FIRST DIVISION NORTH
The Goalkeeper of the Month award for the First Division North for October 2025 has gone to Chris Thompson of Nelson. This is the second time that he has won this award for Nelson having picked in up in March 2025, and the fifth time in total after previously winning it for Colne.
Thompson is an experienced keeper who came in at the start of last season, helping revival Nelson from relegation material to finish second in the league. He joined from Mossley, having previously been with Clitheroe where he made over 200 appearances and was named in their team of the decade in 2020. Other former clubs include Colne, Droylsden and Ramsbottom United.
October saw Thompson and Nelson play four games, in which he kept three clean sheets and conceded just one goal. This helped his side to win Club of the Month for October.
The first game for Thompson in October saw him marshall his defence superbly to keep a clean sheet in a 6-0 win at Premier Division Padiham in the Macron Cup. That was Thompson's fourth clean sheet of the season after three in September.
Next up was another cup match, this time the Isuzu FA Vase at home to Harrogate Railway Athletic where Nelson won 3-0. Thompson made two vital stops in this game, a low save down to his right in the 79th minute with a similar save coming in stoppage time.
A hard fought 2-1 win came at Steeton next as Nelson returned to league action. Thompson made several key clearances with the scores goalless, and was powerless to stop a superb volley for Steeton's goal with just five minutes remaining.
The final game brought another clean sheet, this time against Ashton Town in a 2-0 win for Nelson. Nelson were again thankful for Thompson, particularly in a tense first half in which both sides had chances to score.
A fine month for Thompson with just the one goal conceded and three clean sheets in the four games that he played.
FIRST DIVISION SOUTH
The winner of the October 2025 Goalkeeper of the Month Award for the First Division South for the third month running is Will Ebbrell of Runcorn Town.
Will is in his third season in the league after playing previously for Ashville and Cammell Laird 1907, before moving to Runcorn Town at the start of this season. His first two months this season saw him keep seven clean sheets, and he went on to keep four more in October to make it 11 clean sheets in 20 games played.
The month started for Will with a 5-1 win over Foley Meir, before a superb performance in a penalty shoot out win over AFC Liverpool in the Liverpool Senior Cup. Will made a great save on 25 minutes from Deacon Smalley, as well as a number of key saves in the second half as the Premier Division side piled on the pressure. He also made a key save in the shoot-out to help his side progress.
The next two games saw clean sheets in a 1-0 win over Allscott Heath in the Macron Cup and a 4-0 win at Alsager Town. Will's organising of his defence and control of his area, particularly dealing with crosses, were key to keeping Runcorn's opponents out in these games.
Runcorn lost 3-1 to Fulwood Amateurs in the fifth game of the month, before Will kept another clean sheet in a goalless draw with Ashville. He made a key save with 20 minutes remaining in this game to deny Connor Rowland who was clean through.
A fourth clean sheet came in the next game against Wolverhampton Casuals, with Will in great form in the second half in a 1-1 draw with Cammell Laird 1907 in the Edward Case Cup, his former side piling on the pressure to force a penalty shoot out.
Eight games played and four more clean sheets for Will rounded off another fine month for the Runcorn number one.
Congratulations Will!
