Wythenshawe wrapped up the Premier Division title in style on Tuesday evening with a 5-1 home victory over Irlam.

The win took the Ammies to 103 points, nine clear of second placed Ramsbottom United with the Lancashire side having just two games left. It is the most points that the club has ever achieved in their history.

After winning five of their last six games in the league, they needed just a point to secure the title, however in front of a bumper crowd of 527, they were in no mood to settle for just one point as they opened the scoring after just four minutes through Aaron Dwyer. Darius Palma got away on the right and squared it for Dwyer, and after seeing his first shot saved, he scored the rebound for his 40th goal of the season.

On 15 minutes it was two, and again Palma was the instigator. He broke before finding Sam Adewusi on the overlap, and his cross was hit home by Prince Anuniru.

It remained tense, but a goal in the very first minute of the second half settled any nerves and set the tone for the rest of the game. A corner from Hewitt was headed in at the back post by Curtis Jones.

Just before the hour, three became four as Eoin Charles got his name on the scoresheet. A corner found its way to him on the edge of the box and his lofted return evaded everyone and ended up in the net.

Henry Carne made it five with fifteen minutes to play as he drilled a low shot into the bottom corner of the net, and despite Irlam pulling one back from a header by Ethan Cartright three minutes later, Ammies saw out the game comfortably.

The league win ensures an immediate return to Step 4 after relegation last season. It is the first time since Workington won the league in 1998/99 that a side has achieved a first time promotion after dropping into our league.

Congratulations to everyone involved at Wythenshawe on their success this season!
