Lancaster Edge Out Padiham In Lancashire Trophy

Premier Division side Padiham lost 1-0 to Northern Premier League side Lancaster City on Wednesday night in the Lancashire Challenge Trophy Final.
The Storks were looking to win the competition for the very first time in their history having reached the final with a win over Fulwood Amateurs. Lancaster, who lifted the trophy in 2020 for the first time in almost 50 years, were favourites playing two leagues higher than Padiham in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.
The only goal of the game came after just 11 minutes and was straight from the training ground. A corner from Sam Bailey was played short to Nic Evangelinos just inside the box, and his low shot went through a melee of players and found the back of the net.
Both sides created chances in an action packed first half with Evangelinos going close to a second but shooting straight at Matthew Hamnett. Joel Brownhill went closest for Padiham just before the break with a header that forced a fantastic tip over from Brad Kelly.
The second half saw Lancaster go closest to extending their lead from a Steven Yawson curling effort that went just wide, with Bobby Bjork seeing a shot blocked on the hour. The closest though was from Dom Lawson in stoppage time who rounded Hamnett but saw his shot cleared off the line.
Moments later the referee blew the full time whistle to confirm Lancaster as winners.
