Daisy Hill FC have discovered that they have a new supporter who lives nearly 300 miles away in Dundee – and her name is Daisy Hill!

Daisy, who is 16 years old, and her mum Kelsey Hill became aware of the club when Kelsey saw a video on the Instagram account of the club's stadium sponsor, the social media star Angry Ginge.

Ginge runs a team, Winton Yanited, who play their home games at Daisy Hill's ground, the Ginge Power Stadium, and when she saw the club name on one of his vlogs, Kelsey admits she needed to double check to make sure she wasn't mistaken.

"Angry Ginge mentioned Daisy Hill Football Club on his story on Instagram and there was a picture of the ground", said Kelsey.

"And I thought, that can't be right.  But then I Googled it and it came up.  I was just so shocked that I'd come across a football club with my daughter's name.

"I did some digging around just to make sure that I wasn't seeing things, and that her name really was the same as a football club.

"You just don't ever expect your child's name to be the full name of a football club.  Maybe a first name or surname, but never a full name.

"Not only that, Daisy has red hair, so with the ground being called the Ginge Power Stadium and sponsored by Angry Ginge, that's another connection as well.

"Once I'd checked, I then told my work colleague Garry Saunders about the football club and he had a look around too.

"Garry's one of those kind of people that just gets in touch with everybody when he sees something he's interested in, and he contacted the club straight away.

"I wasn't aware that he was doing that until the club messaged him back, and he told me that they wanted to speak to us".

As for Daisy herself, who is a Dundee FC supporter, she is pleased that she has found a second team to follow.

"I was really surprised when my mum told me about it, and I've told all my friends", said Daisy, who works at a children's nursery in Dundee.

"They are saying that if we go to visit the club, they all want to come too".

However, as news of the story has spread around family, friends and work colleagues, Kelsey says that plans are now taking shape for a large group of followers to make a trip down from Dundee to visit Daisy Hill at the start of next season.

"At the moment we've got loads of people who say they want to come down there for a football game", said Kelsey.

"We've got family and friends saying they want to come, Garry wants to come, and he says even some of his friends are talking about wanting to come as well.

"We're just all amazed that there's a football club that's got the same name as Daisy, and it would be a nice wee trip down.

"We are hoping we will get something sorted once the club have their fixtures for July and August, and I'll get numbers together and we can see what happens".

Daisy Hill FC Vice-Chairman Colin Higson says that everyone at the club is delighted to have made a connection with the Hill family.

"It's a great story, and we couldn't believe it when the message from Garry arrived", said Colin.

"It's amazing to find someone with the same name as the club and the area, and it would be great to welcome a travelling party of supporters from Dundee at a game next season.

"In the meantime, we've sent up some club merchandise for Daisy and Kelsey, and hopefully they can help to spread the word about the club around Dundee".
