The new North West Counties season gets underway with a silverware opportunity as Wythenshawe FC take on AFC Liverpool in the NWCFL Champions Cup Final at the Avensure Community Stadium on Saturday, 25 July.

Wythenshawe are playing in this fixture for the second time in three years, and were victorious on their previous outing in 2024, overcoming Barnoldswick Town by two goals to one. The Ammies come into the match full of confidence after an outstanding 2025-26 campaign that saw them finish top of the Premier Division, amassing a mammoth 106 points en route to the title. While not much can be read into pre-season results, Wythenshawe have been prolific in front of goal in their summer run-outs and will look to bring that into the competitive arena.

AFC Liverpool, meanwhile, will be looking to pull off an upset of-sorts against the league champions. The Non-League Reds finished 11th in last season's Premier Division but have shown they are capable of competing with anyone on their day. They earned their spot in this fixture by virtue of a 3-1 win over West Didsbury & Chorlton in the Macron Cup Final back in May, winning that competition for the first time in their history and as a result make their Champions Cup debut in South Manchester this weekend.

History between the two sides favours Wythenshawe, who have won three of the four previous competitive matches, including a resounding double last season; winning 3-1 at home in September before thumping AFC 5-1 in the reverse fixture in December.

Kick off in Wythenshawe is at 3pm on Saturday.
