The Winners of the Reusch Goalkeeper of the Month Awards for March 2025 have been announced this week by the NWCFL.

PREMIER DIVISION

The North West Counties League Premier Division Goalkeeper of the Month Award for March 2025 has gone to Mitch Allen of Bury. This is the second time this season Mitch has won this award after also picking it up in November.

He has been in outstanding form all season for Bury, with his presence and shot stopping abilities helping Bury to the top of the Premier Division. Coming into March he had kept 11 clean sheets this season, the last one in his final game in February, and Mitch and his defence have certainly brought this form into their March games. Five games played, five wins and five more clean sheets. There's not much better!

His first game in March saw Bury win 7-0 at home to Litherland REMYCA with Mitch organising his defence to minimal REMY attacks on the day. He kept his clean sheet with the score at 2-0, standing up well to James Hammill who was one on one with him before making the save. Next was a 2-0 home win over Barnoldswick Town, with Allen pulling off a crucial save from Lewis Farmer at the start of the second half with the score at 1-0.

The third game and clean sheet was in a narrow 1-0 win away at FC St Helens, although he had little to do in this game with Bury defending superbly and the Stripes wasteful of the little chances that they were given. Three wins and clean sheets soon became four with a return to St Helens, this time a 2-0 win at Pilkington, a game again where Allen had little to do.

The final game of the month saw Squires Gate visit Bury and this time he had to earn the clean sheet that gave him an unbeaten month. Key saves he made included ones from Jack Coop in the first half and Dean Ing in the second.

With a 4-0 win in the opening game of this month, Allen has now gone 7 games and 672 minutes without conceding a goal. He has helped his side to the brink of the title, and two more clean sheets would be a key way to secure it.

Congratulations to Mitch on his Award!

FIRST DIVISION NORTH

The Goalkeeper of the Month award for the First Division North has gone to Chris Thompson of Nelson. He is the first Admiral to win this award since Rob Grimes in February 2014.

Chris is an experienced keeper who came in at the start of the season, helping revival Nelson from relegation material to title contendors this season. He joined from Mossley, having previously been with Clitheroe where he made over 200 appearances and was named in their team of the decade in 2020. Other former clubs include Droylsden and Ramsbottom United.

The first game for Chris in March was at Steeton, with Chris organising his defence well and keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 win. He pulled off several key saves throughout the game with his performance earning him Man of the Match.

A trip to Darwen was next, with Nelson's title winning hopes dented in a 3-1 win for the home side. It could have been more though but for Chris' saves in the game, with a second successive Man of the Match win some small consolation for him.

The final game of the month was a tight affair at the top of the table as Atherton LR visited Nelson. Chris was powerless to stop Joe Bacon's goal in the second half, and that proved to be the only goal of the game in a 1-0 defeat. Again though he picked up the Man of the Match award, making it a clean sweep for him in the month.

Congratulations to Chris for his performances in the month!

FIRST DIVISION SOUTH

There winner of the March 2025 Goalkeeper of the Month Award for the First Division South is Danny Roberts of Abbey Hulton United. This is the second time this season Danny has won this award after also picking it up in December.

Abbey Hulton have had a resurgence over the last few weeks, pushing towards achieving a play-off place in the First Division South. Danny has been instrumental in that push, with his experience helping his defence to eight clean sheets since his mid-season signing.

The first game for him in March saw a narrow 1-0 defeat at Runcorn Town. He could do nothing to prevent the early goal in that game, but made several key stops to keep his side in the game which his forward line unfortunately could not capitalise on.

Next was a trip to Alsager Town, with Danny keeping his side goalless at the start of the second half with a crucial stop. They went on to win the game 1-0 with a late goal with Danny keeping a clean sheet.

The final game was at home to Wolverhampton Sporting Community, with Danny busy early on as Wolves started brightly. As the game progressed, he had less and less to do with Abbey Hulton winning 6-0, Danny again keeping a clean sheet for his side.

Two clean sheets and one goal conceded in three games shows his value to an Abbey Hulton side in good form.

Congratulations Danny!
