Mon 29th December 2025 | League Awards | By Martin Fallon
We were delighted to catch up this week with FC St Helens, who were winners of the Premier Division PST Sport Club of the Month award for September 2025.
Postponements and unavailablity have meant quite a bit of a delay to this award, which was finally carried out at FC St Helens last home game by League Director Martin Fallon. He carried out the presentation on behalf of the League Committee.
This is the first monthly award in the Premier Division for FC St Helens and their first since February 2024.
FC St Helens played seven games in the month, winning five of them and losing two as they cemented themselves in a Play-Off positions, finishing the month three points behind leaders Padiham. Even more impressive is that of the seven games they played, six were away from home with all five wins coming on the road.
They started the month off with a 2-1 win at Euxton Villa. After falling behind in the first half, Joe Barker levelled things seven minutes into the second half before Josh Briggs hit the winner with 12 minutes remaining. Next came a trip to South Liverpool and another 2-1 win. This had a similar feel to Euxton, with South taking the lead just before the break and Tom McNamara levelling 12 minutes into the second half. One again it was Josh Briggs who hit the winner, this coming five minutes after McNamara's goal.
A third successive away game came at Abbey Hey, and this one was more straight forward with a 3-0 win for St Helens. Briggs opened the scoring this time just before the break with Parker once again scoring in the 52nd minute to make it two. Barker sealed the win in stoppage time with his second of the game, this coming from the penalty spot.
A mid-month hiccup came with a 1-0 defeat at home to Wythenshawe. This was followed by another defeat as they lost 2-1 at Atherton LR. Chris Hill put St Helens ahead in that game just before the hour before LR turned the game around.
FC St Helens bounced back in the sixth game of the month as they won 2-1 at City of Liverpool. James Murphy opened the scoring for the Stripes this time before CoL levelled early in the second half. Harry Scarborough hit the winner with eight minutes remaining.
The final game was at Ashton Athletic in the Macron Cup, and perhaps the barmiest ending ever to a NWCFL tie. With scores level at the break, Ashton scored twice to lead and that was still the scor as the board went up for added on time. Harry Hagan hit what was surely a consolation, and then three minute into stoppage time Mackenzie O`Neill equalised. With everyone expecting penalties, Michael Ibeto scored the winner six minutes into stoppage time, putting St Helens through.
Those results gave FC St Helens 18 points towards the Club of the Month calculation from their 7 games for a 2.57 average.
The closest challengers were Prestwich Heys, who also had five wins in the month, plus Charnock Richard who won three times.
Total Games played in the Month: 7
Total Points won in the Month: 18
Average: 2.57
